A Unified Association of Black Legal Professionals
Advancing equality & excellence in the pursuit of justice, while encouraging the development of Black lawyers, law students and legal professionals.
OUR MEMBERS SAY IT BEST!
I became a member of the MBBA in 2014. It has easily been one of the best decisions I’ve made, hands down, over the course of my legal career. The connections I’ve made, relationships I’ve fostered, and opportunities that have been provided to me have not been matched anywhere else. Whether your practice is corporate, government, public interest, or even solo, this is the one stop bar association in NYC for black attorneys, judges, politicians, and everyone in between. The legal workshops that we’ve put on for the community have been some of the best times of my career. So, if you’re looking for the best, brightest, and most caring black legal minds in NY, look no further. You’ve found your home.

The MBBA was very helpful during a time when I needed to find a Black attorney to help me with my personal situation. I am grateful to them and what they do for our community.

As a pre-law student in the pipeline to a career as a lawyer, the MBBA has been a beacon of light along my path. MBBA readily-welcomed me into their fold. I was able to network and gain mentorship from the top legal minds in New York City, and fortify my plan for my own legal career.
Supporting the MBBA equals supporting Black lawyers.
We welcome all individuals to join as members, from admitted attorneys, current law students & recent law students awaiting admission, to paralegals and other legal professionals. Non-lawyers who embrace and want to promote the mission of the Association are also encouraged to join.
Members have access to our network of over 1,000 attorneys.
Membership provides a number of opportunities for networking with other attorneys in the Metropolitan area, whether at our CLE classes, lectures, workshops and seminars, or other special events like our Annual Scholarship Gala. We are also an affiliate of the National Bar Association.
Members have opportunities to support our communities with legal advocacy.
MBBA Members make a difference by analyzing and commenting on proposed legislation and rules, presenting testimony at hearings and other public forums, screening candidates for judicial office and publishing recommendations concerning their suitability for election or appointment, as well as, coordinating and volunteering at free legal clinics.
